Inclusive Pregnancy, Birth and Postnatal support for all parents and families
What is a Doula?
Doulas are people specially trained to give emotional and practical support during pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period, supporting the whole family, leading to more empowered experiences.
Doulas are non medical professionals- they do not advise but can support families to find the balanced information relative to their care, supporting informed decision making and informed consent.
As a Doula I am here for you and your family - to advocate for your wishes, to listen deeply to you and to give continuity of care.
But what do you actually do?
What we do together is dictated by you and your needs - no two clients are the same!
Before the birth, I can:
Listen to your hopes and worries, share infomation about the stages of labour and post-partum, help you create your birth preferences, attend hospital appointments, practice setting up your homebirth space, signpost to relevant guidance and research, help explain birthing positions and techniques, learn how you like your tea (and more!)
During the birth, I can:
Stay with you throughout the whole process, travel to and/or from your place of birth, offer physical support, offer gentle encouragement, advocate on your behalf to medical professionals, help involve your partner (if you have one), take photos on your phone/camera, and ensure you are making informed decisions
After the birth, I can:
Visit you as soon as you want me to check in, help guard your space from visitors that have outstayed their welcome, bring food, offer practical support in your home, listen to any concerns you have regarding feeding, signpost to relevant medical or feeding help, offer a friendly face, hold baby while you have a shower

Absolutely! The support of a Doula is worthwhile regardless of how many pregnancies you’ve had, where you want to give birth, or whether you have any medical complications or not.
Every birth needs support and every birth can be empowering, calm and informed. A Doula can help with all of these things.
